Emily & Jory’s Proposal at Cheeseman Park in Denver, Colorado

I got to photograph my first proposal in Denver last Saturday and had a great time with Emily and Jory. Jory was able to surprise Emily with a proposal while they were visiting the city for her work conference and I was so happy I was able to be a part of it.

I learned some things while planning and shooting this proposal, and the biggest thing I learned is that there can be bumps in the road, no matter how much planning you can do.

Days before the proposal, I was able to have a consultation call with Jory to discuss his plan, locations, and logistics. After our call, I scouted some locations for him and sent them some photos and videos of the places we talked about. After looking through them, he decided that he liked the Pavillon at Cheesman Park, and wanted to do it there.

But, the day of the proposal, I discovered that there was a private party being hosted at the Pavillon, and had to quickly come up with a plan b. We ended up texting about a new plan and after trailing each other around the park, I was able to find a clearing on the field where he was able to propose.

The proposal was successful and we were able to shoot some photographs of them before they got to celebrate at dinner. I enjoyed seeing Emily’s shocked reaction when she saw me shooting and had a great time re-hashing the day with them after we ended the shoot.

I loved getting to know their story and shoot these photographs, and hope I get to help more couples capture special moments like these that they can carry on with them forever.
