Wedding in Boulder, Colorado
This is an exciting blog because this is about my first wedding I got to shadow this year! I was able to get this opportunity after reaching out to a photographer in Denver early this past spring.
After meeting and getting to know each other, I asked if I could shadow one of her weddings she had for the 2024 season and when she said yes, I was thrilled and excited because I admired her work and wanted to learn from her.
The wedding was located in Boulder and it was a sweet and small celebration. The bride and groom had only family attend the ceremony and reception, and you could see the love and close connection they had with them. They coordinated everything themselves and I learned a few things while shadowing throughout the day.
One, the wedding party size doesn’t matter as long as you are surrounded by your loved ones to help you cherish and celebrate this moment with you. This was an intimate 20 person wedding and although it was small, I could see how comfortable the couple were throughout the day and how close they were with each person at the ceremony and reception. You could see the love and closeness each person had towards the couple and it was beautiful to see how much love was shared among their families.
Two, anything minor can happen throughout the day and you might have to be prepared to help. One thing that happened that I didn’t expect was to help the bride get into her dress. She had to have someone tie the corset in the back and it took us three tries to figure out how to tie it properly to secure it. After, we helped her curl her hair because we found one strand uncurled before we left. These were quick fixes to make but it showed me that not everything can turn out exactly how you expect it, and if you’re calm about the situation, you can help with the right people around you.
Three, having a reception that caters your interests will allow you to have the most fun while celebrating your marriage. The couple decided to have their reception at a bar and rented a space where they could all sit together to eat and drink during the night. I could tell they were so comfortable with their decision, and had fun choosing where they wanted to order food from among the vendors in the building. We got to get candid and posed shots of the couple chatting with family over Facetime calls, eating and drinking, and chatting as the sun set.
Overall, the weather was overcast and warm, and the views during the ceremony were beautiful with the flatirons and greenery in the background. I believe this was a sweet start to my wedding photography journey and I’m grateful I got to shoot beside my friend and see how an intimate wedding could be.
